STAR Capital sells its shareholding in MPC Container Ships

STAR Capital (“STAR”) has successfully sold its remaining 10% shareholding in MPC Container Ships (“MPCC”), a global marine transportation business that owns and operates a portfolio of container vessels specialised in serving intra-regional trade routes.

STAR acquired a cornerstone shareholding in MPCC in December 2017 and over time invested a total of €90m, therefore becoming the company’s largest shareholder. In July 2021 and March 2022 STAR made partial exits taking its shareholding in MPCC down to 10%.

At the time of STAR’s investment, MPCC was listed on the Merkur Markt in Oslo, Norway. The company was subsequently listed on the Oslo Bors, which helped pave the way for further growth.

The funds raised by MPCC were used to implement a successful investment strategy: MPCC built the management team from a team of two to 22 today, and has grown the fleet from 26 to 68 vessels (including 4 new builds), becoming a leading tonnage provider in its category.
